About me

My first passion in life was dance. I took my first ballet class when I was 5 years old. I stubbornly refused to wear the pink uniform, so I rocked up in a blue leotard, much to the dismay of my teacher and the other students. Regardless of my fashion choices, it was soon clear to my teachers and my parents that I had an affinity for dance.  I loved the way that moving with expression and creativity made me feel and I felt drawn to the artistry of this movement modality.

Dance became my life for the next 15 years. I completed my formal ballet training through the Royal Academy of Dance, taught ballet and jazz classes, and performed with The Australian Classical Youth Ballet, Ding Productions, and Shane International.

By the time I was 21, my parents had passed away and I began to experience worsening mental health challenges and formed a strained relationship with my body, and by extension, dance itself. I packed away my leotards, toe socks, and pointe shoes, gave up my dance career, and started working full-time at my retail job, grasping at the seemingly foreign concepts of security and stability.

After a few directionless years filled with anxiety and the sense of being lost, a friend recommended that I try yoga. So, I took my first Vinyasa class at Human.Kind Studios and finally found some reprieve.

The mental health benefits became observable quite quickly, and I noticed that I was drawn to yoga for similar reasons that I had been drawn to dance; It allowed me to become immersed in physicality and expression in a safe environment and provided me with a creative outlet that soothed my mind and soul.

As my practice evolved, I discovered a deeper connection to yoga’s philosophical roots, while still holding a deep passion for Vinyasa and postural yoga. I found myself drawn to restorative practices, discovering, with the help of my teachers, the beauty and importance of stillness and rest. I also developed a strong sense of connection within the yoga community, experiencing belonging and forming beautiful friendships.

As the pull towards yoga began to feel stronger, I quit my job and enrolled in Human Kind’s 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. During my training I was exposed to the knowledge, wisdom and masterful teaching skills of some of the best yoga teachers in Australia such as Adam Whiting, Tessa Leon, and Triton Tunis-Mitchell and was guided towards discovering my own teaching style. By the end of the training it felt overwhelmingly clear to me that teaching yoga and movement was what I was meant to be doing.

I am so excited to begin my teaching journey and to continue diving deeper into the various facets of this evolving practice. I hope to share with you the parts of yoga that have strongly resonated with me and to tell the stories that are now close to my heart.
